STA "Learn to Swim" series

The International Swimming and Water Saftey Standard (ISWSS) developed a range of swimming awards with the STA

Karmawaters is fully affiliated to the swimming teachers association and works in conjunction with their Learn to swim series.

BABIES

The STARFISH level is the STA water safety programme for babies, typically birth to two years it combines lessons and free play

Karmawaters is a registered Starfish swim school

PRE-SCHOOL

The FIRST STEPS series is specially designed to teach pre-school children from as young as 2 years old to learn to swim through 14 progressive steps. It was launched in conjunction with the BBC Rubbadubbers TV series, and the scheme builds on the STA motto of "Swim for Fun, Health and Safety"

SCHOOL AGE

The OCTOPUS level is aimed at the non swimmer requiring buoyancy aids to develop water confidence and basic waterman ship skills.

The GOLDFISH level is for beginners without the use of buoyancy aids. Swimmers shall be able to swim 5 metres using a paddle type action.

The ANGELFISH level moves on to stroke development and improved technique.

The SHARK level will continue to establish good stroke technique. At the end of this award pupils will be able to swim 100m, swim all 4 strokes, dive and understand basic water safety.

SPECIAL NEEDS

Karmawaters and the STA are committed to offering the same opportunities to all, including those with special needs. Thus, ISWSS caters for those that can not be incorporated into mainstream with the Endeavour Series covering water skills and the Penguin Series for distance swimming from 5 metres to 400 metres. ADULTS

Learn to swim – A series of four lesson plans to increase confidence and learn basic water skills.
On obtaining the series four certificate you will be above to swim 50m without a buoyancy aid.
