Starting Baby Swimming
Babies should be introduced into the water in line with the most recent recommendations from the department of health. This can be found on http://www.immunisation.org.uk. The current recommendation is that your baby does not need any immunisations before they go swimming.
Babies need to wear a double nappy system comprising of a disposable nappy and a re-usable nappy to prevent leakage.
Health benifits
Swimming allows babies and toddlers to move independently long before they are able to crawl or walk. This contributes to a sound motor development, improves the function of the muscles and facilitates co-ordination.
Water offers a heightened multi sensory experience involving touch hearing and sight. Both physical and eye contact offers stimulation, closeness and bonding.
The starfish is not teaching your baby to swim in a forceful way, but on encouraging free movement in the water, allowing each baby to develop at their own pace.
At Karmawaters, classes will be kept to a maximum of 7 parent and baby pairs.
A lifeguard is present on the poolside throughout every Karmawaters class. |
